Las Palapas Mexican Restaurant offers a bright and festive atmosphere, making it a great place to enjoy classic Mexican cuisine. The unfinished elements of the interior design adds to the ambiance.
The menu offers a great variety of traditional Mexican dishes, with something for everyone. A must-try dish is the Shrimp Diablo, which is bold, spicy, and full of flavor. As expected, hot chips are served at the table, adding to the authentic experience. However, the guacamole tasted a bit off, which was unexpected. The Taquitos con Queso didn’t meet my expectations, as they lacked the flavor and texture I was hoping for. For dessert, the churros were enjoyable, but the caramel made them overly sweet—without it, they would have been the perfect treat.
The entrance faces south. The staff was knowledgeable and took the time to explain the menu, which was helpful. However, service was just okay, as plates weren’t frequently cleared, and for a table of six, the large plates made the space feel cramped.
Weekend evenings are busy, and a waitlist is always needed, so planning ahead is recommended. Despite a few minor service issues, I recommend this place for its lively atmosphere and flavorful dishes, and I will definitely return for another visit.

Food = good 👍 the menu had a nice spread and many options to please. Most i went with a southwestern salad, but I'll be back to try the tacos and different meats
Service = excellent. Staff was happy to be at work and very nice to my crew
Atmosphere = really fun little close and dense in the middle with normal tables, but booth seating is much nicer and personal

Las Palapas in Livonia – what a gem! We were on the hunt for a decent dinner spot when a local shop clerk recommended it, promising a lively atmosphere. They weren’t wrong. Even on a fully booked Saturday night, we waited barely five minutes before a table was organized, which was impressive on its own. The place was buzzing with energy, and the service team matched it stride for stride, friendly and efficient. They made everything look easy, balancing warmth with speed, which, let’s face it, isn’t always a given. From ordering to digging into some great nachos with perfectly balanced, not-too-spicy salsa, it all happened smoothly and fast.
Now, about the burritos – absolute beasts. We’re two strength athletes who can typically eat an all-you-can-eat buffet into submission, but these burritos left us waving the white flag. Packed with flavor, high-quality ingredients, and more filling than we could handle in one go, they were genuinely impressive. We took home enough leftovers for another round, which says a lot. And let’s not forget the queso – rich, creamy, and just a perfect addition to the experience.
Overall, we had an absolute blast here. Great food, top-notch service, and a fun, lively atmosphere. Safe to say, we’ll definitely be making our way back to Las Palapas. A clear recommendation if you’re in the area and up for a fantastic meal.

Great authentic Mexican food with great service and huge portions. You cannot go wrong coming here. The only negative is you MUST reserve ahead of time and depending when you want to go the wait is about 80-85 minutes. Well worth it!

Haven’t been to Las Palapas in a few years due to past negative experiences with the food and service. Decided to give it another try today and WOW what a difference!! Is it under new ownership?! Food had flavor, portions were huge (prices did go up significantly, but that’s ok, I will pay for great food and service) service was great and just all around it was a great meal! Thank you for not disappointing!
