When visiting Detroit, I knew I had to try the iconic pizza the city is known for, and there’s no better place than Buddy’s, where Detroit-style pizza was originally developed. Detroit-style pizza is made in a rectangular pan, with cheese spread all the way to the edges, creating a caramelized cheese crust. I tried the Detroiter, which is made with Wisconsin brick cheese, tomato basil sauce, pepperoni, shaved Parmesan cheese, and Buddy’s spice blend. The pizza is thick and chewy, with deliciously crispy and caramelized edges. They have two pizza sizes: 4 squares, or 8 squares. I got the 4-square size, and was full after eating two squares. Highly recommend trying Buddy’s Detroit-style pizza!

I recently had the delightful experience of trying Detroit-style pizza for the first time at Buddy's Pizza, a renowned gem in Warren, Michigan. This beloved establishment is famous for its mouthwatering pizzas and its warm and inviting atmosphere that instantly makes you feel at home.
What sets Detroit-style pizza apart is its thick, crispy crust, which somehow manages to be both airy and fluffy. It's the perfect canvas for a tantalizing array of toppings. Each slice is a flavor-packed journey, making it a must-try for any pizza enthusiast.
At Buddy's, one pizza that truly stole the show was the "Detroiter." This beauty features Wisconsin brick cheese and pepperoni artfully layered on top, kissed by a rich tomato basil sauce, with a sprinkle of shaved Parmesan and a Sicilian spice blend. All of this deliciousness comes in an 8-square serving for just $24.79.
Not to be outdone, the "Meat Deluxe" is a carnivore's dream come true. Also served in the signature 8-square format, this pizza boasts a hearty combination of Wisconsin brick cheese, pepperoni, Italian sausage, ham, bacon, and seasoned ground beef, all for $28.79.
Buddy's Pizza has cultivated a loyal following, and it's easy to see why. The divine food and accommodating vibes make it a perfect spot to gather with friends. We also indulged in a starter of Buddy Bread—perfectly baked, sprinkled with garlic and Parmesan, and served with a savory marinara sauce for just $5.99. It was the ideal precursor to the pizza feast!
With more food than my group of five could handle in one sitting, it was a veritable pizza party! I can’t wait to return for another round of these delectable offerings.

An outstanding meal. Ordered an antipasto salad and it was fantastic. The Detroiter pizza was flawlessly prepared. Even the coffee was excellent. All this on a super slow Super Bowl Sunday night. Our server, Emily, could not have been more accommodating and gracious. She was attentive and kind and went to extraordinary lengths to fuss over the two of us. A nicely executed meal. Nice work. And thank you.

Buddy's used to be the premier pizza joint around but over the years they've gone downhill, in my opinion. In the past 6 months I've ordered from 3 different locations and every time the toppings are nearly non-existent, while paying $1.50 per topping. A 4 piece pizza with 3 toppings (actually just a few pieces of mushroom, a light sprinkle of bacon bits and a few pieces of ham) being nearly $20 is pretty excessive. It's basically just a cheese pizza, which is still tasty with the brick-cheese, sauce and crust but I want to actually taste the ingredients that I ordered.

The pizza was INCREDIBLE!
If the salad was a bit more fresh and next-level, I would have left 5 stars.
Why does the pepperoni pizza only have 8 tiny slices of pepperoni on it, though? See photo.
